Author: Ari Story: The American Holiday Rating: Young Teens Setting: Pre-DH Status: Completed Reviews: 5 Words: 1,442 "Now that Voldemort is gone, I think I'm going to take a holiday. Wanna go with me? I'm thinking of a trip to America, just to check it out. How does that sound?" Harry and Ginny were standing in the middle of the battlefield, just west of Godric's Hollow, where Voldemort had only just fallen to Godric's sword, which was now a twisted mass of iron in the centre of a blast mark. Ginny had only just managed to get to Harry. Ron and Hermione were sitting on the ground, Hermione helping Ron with a broken leg and a slash across his jaw. Hermione looked all right, but when she turned to look at Ginny, she saw that there was blood coming from under her bushy hair, and more from her shoulder staining her robes. Hermione had brewed up some Felix Felicius, and the quartet had had taken a drink, just enough for a day, dawn to dusk. They had shared the potion with everyone in the Order, and most had survived, a vast differnect over what Hermione had expected. Hermione thought that was a lot more than would have survived, had they not had any of the luck potion. Ginny looked around at the dark-robed figures groaning in pain, and then back to Harry. "Voldemort has only just been destroyed. When did you decide—?" Harry turned to look at Ginny. "Just now, when I realised I had my whole life to live. I'm not destined to die anytime soon." Ginny looked at her brother and his girlfriend. "What about Hermione and Ron? What about my family and the rest of the Wizarding world?" Harry glanced over to Ron and Hermione. "I'll ask Ron and Hermione to come. As for the rest of the Wizarding world… I've done my part, they can do the rest." Harry turned back to look at the twisted remains of the sword, before he turned around to face Ginny. Faced with the hardened look of war from Harry, Ginny stammered her answer. Harry smiled, pecked her on the lips and turned to help Ron and Hermione. ~*~ "Harry?" Ginny whispered, prodding him slightly. "Harry, wake up. We're here." Harry's eyes opened, and Ginny smiled. He was immediately looking around for threats, even after Voldemort had been dead for a month. "Hmm?" Ginny smiled. "We're here," she repeated. Harry took his head off Ginny's shoulder. "In Massachusetts?" Ginny smiled again as Harry sat up and looked around the aeroplane compartment. "Yes. We still have to wake up Hermione and Ron." Harry yawned and looked over the back of the seat, where Hermione's head was resting on Ron's shoulder, Ron's head on Hermione's. The pair were asleep, and Harry was puzzling over how he could have slept through all the noise that the engines were making. The four of them had decided to take Muggle transport in an effort to show the magical world that they were not above the Muggles so many people had died to protect over the last two decades. It also allowed the Muggles to realise that Harry and his friends, and the Magical world, were not above being seen by Muggles. After Voldemort had been destroyed, and the Ministry disassembled, it seemed pointless to keep the Muggles in the dark about the Magical world. Provided the Muggles didn't come running to the Magical world for every small spot of bother. "Ron. Hermione. Wake up." Harry, being precautious, blew in Ron's ear, knowing that waking him up with a poke in the ribs would mean a broken wrist. Ron started awake, looking around wildly. "What's happening?" he asked, instantly awake. "We've arrived," Harry said. "Can you wake up Hermione?" Ron nodded and Harry turned around in his seat. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your pilot speaking. We have just landed in Boston, Massachusetts. Please remain seated until the door is opened, and then move in a sedately fashion. Thank you for flying American Airways," the intercom fuzzled out, and Harry looked back over the seat. Ron and Hermione were checking their wands and things, preparing to leave the plane. Harry smiled. This was the beginning of the rest of his life, and he was going to enjoy it, his friends with him. ~*~ Harry and Ginny waited out the front of the airport for Ron and Hermione. Harry could have sworn that they had been right behind them as they had passed security, but, obviously, he had been wrong. "What do you think is taking them so long?" Ginny asked Harry, holding his hand, their bags around their feet. "I don't—watch out, Gin," Harry said, feeling for his wand. Four security guards were walking towards them, obviously focused on the pair. "Mr. and Mrs. Potter?" one of them asked, and Ginny smiled, remembering that she was married now. "Can we help you with anything?" Harry asked, his hand on his wand. "Would you follow us, please?" another one asked, and the other two security guards lifted the two bags the pair had brought. Without waiting for an answer, the four guards set off back into the mayhem of the airport. "I wonder what your bother and his wife have gotten us into," Harry whispered to Ginny, and she frowned in though. The guards, Harry and Ginny walked back into the mayhem of the security station, and back to the rooms used for interrogation. "In here, Mr. and Mrs. Potter," the lead guard said, waving them into the room. Once Harry and Ginny sat down, the guard put a couple of items on the table. "Can you sign these for us?" he asked, and Harry and Ginny looked at the hat, shirt and paper the man had placed on the table. "I'm sorry?" Ginny asked, and the man smiled. "You are Harry and Ginny Potter, are you not? The Potters that defeated the Dark Lord over in England?" Harry and Ginny looked between them. "Yes, but—" Ginny started. "You want our autographs?" Harry asked, cutting over Ginny. The guard smiled and nodded. Harry looked at Ginny, sighed and picked up the felt-tip pen. He signed the hat and passed it to Ginny, who examined it. "This has Ron and Hermione's signatures on it," Ginny said, and Harry looked at the shirt too. "This too." Harry looked at the guards. "Where are they?" The guard smiled. "When you sign them, we'll let you go. Ron and Hermione Weasley are waiting for you." Harry sighed and picked up the pen again. ~*~ Harry and Ginny shook their heads as they met up with Ron and Hermione. "Did the guards hold you, too?" Ron asked. "Until you signed some things?" Ginny nodded. "You?" "Yes." Hermione lifted up her bag, and Harry lifted his and Ginny's. "Call a taxi, Hermione, please?" Harry asked, and Hermione sighed. She looked out at the street and saw a line of taxis over the other side of the road. "Come on," she said, and led the way over to the nearest one. "Hi," she said to the driver, and he looked at her. "Can you take us to Salem?" The man nodded, so Hermione relayed the nod to the others. They climbed in the back, and Harry climbed in the front seat. He pulled out a wad of muggle American notes, and he caught the driver's attention. "Everyone in?" Harry asked, and there was a chorus of agreements. Harry looked at the driver. "Let's go." ~*~ After a few hours of driving, Hermione, Ron and Ginny nodded off in the back seat. Harry kept his eyes open in the afternoon sun. "How long until we get there?" Hermione asked the driver from her place behind Harry. "We're here," Harry answered, reading the sign on the side of the road. The driver stopped outside a small hotel. "Mr. Potter?" the driver turned to Harry. "If you are looking for a good place to go for potions ingredients, go to the Matching Wands and ask for Mr. Perkis." Harry nodded to the driver and the man nodded, shutting the trunk of the taxi, collecting his fee and driving off. "Come on," Harry said, looking down the street. "There's the Matching Wands. We can ask for a couple of rooms." Ron, Hermione, Harry and Ginny looked at each other, finally feeling that Voldemort was dead. They were free from war. ** Author’s Notes: I’d love to thank my wonderful beta, LadyChi. My stories’d be only half as good without her polishing. I’d also like to thank Jedione for the paragraph that started this story. The rest is from my twisted imagination. There should be more Sentence Stories coming! |
