Lovely piece - I love the fact taht Harry suggested the idea to bring the family back together as a whole once again. And good on Fred and George for making Percy laugh for the first time since he 'left' them. Also the Harry/Ginny fluf was brilliant worked very well indeed

I've always liked this story - again, another one that is really old. I do love the Weasleys and how Harry fits right in. It's kind of amazing that JKR had Fred laugh at something Percy did right before he died. Laughter does heal a lot. Thanks for reading! |

Very sweet--Harry should talk to Ginny more often when he's slightly tipsy--things might have progressed faster.
thanks! |

That was wonderful! I love a Weasley family photo, it's so sweet and would have all of my favorite characters in it I feel like Ron or Ginny would have dragged Harry into at least one of the pictures they took though. It was a lovely story, nice work! |

Harry looked at Fred with confusion. "Of course she's the best looking one."
^_^ go Harry, there he is showing his obliviousness again.
But so full of good ideas ^_^
Loving the cuteness!

That was so cute, but please can we have the story that goes with:
\"\'...someday, you\'ll have your own children – and they will be your tomorrows.\'
\'Someday you\'ll have your own picture over the mantel.\'\" ??!

Great story! I love it when the Weasleys (including Harry, since he's really an honorary Weasley) get together. There's always laughter and love present in the room with them.
Your idea for Harry to be the one to come to Ginny's rescue (since she was the one who was at loose ends about a gift) with a great idea was very appropriate. He's also just far enough on the outside of the situation to be able to see things like the family picture over the mantel, instead of it just blending in as something that's been there most of their lives (as it probably would for those who grew up with it). Also, since he's obviously "sweet on" Ginny (even if he may not realize it yet), he's very likely to notice that she isn't able to have a significant presence and personality in the old picture because of her age at the time, unlike the twins having to be held still by Bill and Charlie, for example. The other Weasleys again are so used to her being so much younger than them that they probably wouldn't think about how she'd have changed the most physically out of all of them since that picture was taken. But, Harry does, since he has special feelings for her, and that probably explains him wanting the personality and appearance of the Ginny he knows to be captured in an up-to-date Weasley kids photograph. As always, it's a mark of your excellent writing that I can read all of this into your story with all of these motivations for the characters to do what they're doing making perfect sense.
I also loved the twins' teasing of Bill and resulting ice fight. These touches of anarchy are part of what I love about fics in which the Weasleys all get together. With all of the personalities involved, a certain amount of enjoyable chaos is expected.
As always, great job! |

I'm glad you liked this story! It was written for an angst challenge, but it just didn't turn out that way. The Weaselys just aren't angsty to me. I always thought Harry would notice Ginny when no one else around him did. So this story was an attempt to show more of that trait in him.
Thanks for reading and for your detailed review! My favorite kind. |

What a lovely story - made my eyes get all misty.
My only disappointment was that Harry didn't get into the picture as well. I know they wanted it to be a recreation of the original one, but Harry is an un-official Weasley and I had hoped there would be an unruly black head peaking out from behind Percy - something like that. Sigh.... Harry never gets a break. He wants a family so badly....
Anyway, your writing is excellent. I always enjoy your stories and I finally wanted to tell you so with one of my favorite ones.

That's so nice to hear! Thank you! I finally remembered why I didn't consider putting Harry in the picture in the first place. This was for the angst challenge - and Harry pining for a family seemed more angsty, I guess. LOL. I really can't write angst. |
Rozzie Monday 18th April 2005 21:22 | Worth A Thousand Words |
Aww, I love the Weasleys! I think Harry should have been in the picture too though. He's practically an adopted Weasley, and he even gets a Molly made sweater at Christmas time. Oh well, it was so sweet anyway that I can overlook Harry's exclusion.
Keep up the good work, and thanks again! |

and makes it sweet and personal and real.

Beautiful. Just beautiful.
It's uncanny how my favorite entries in this contest turned out to be my fave authors on the site! I guess that proves that style shines through. I ought to try to actually guess identities during the next one...
The characterizations are dead-on, the story just the perfect mix of angst and love that one could want and hope to see in the "post-OotP summer". A very realistic and sweet scenario for Percy's readmission into the fold (tho Ginny seemed as mad at Percy in OotP as Ron, if not madder - remember the "angry cat" sound, which can fuel the fires of other debates? ). I like it that to Harry the wholeness of the Weasley family is sacrosanct - family is the most important thing in the world in his eyes, worth anything and everything. It's nice to see that even when he feels like he has none of his own left (obviously refusing to admit that he's an honorary redhead), with Sirius' death, he still cares enough to want to see them have each other. You can see how he has come to wish he were part of the OBHWF, and yet would still be surprised to find out that he is.
Enough expounding. Just keep writing - I no longer doubt that it will be fantastic! |

Well, I think I've found it at last . . . I really like this story. I would have thought Percy would be harder to reconcile, but that's all right. Not that much angst going on, but there's a definite sadness underlying it all, with Harry consistently thinking of his parents, and the fact that it never even occurred to him that he could have a family of his own some day. Another sad moment was when Ginny appeared worried that Harry would hurt her by rejecting Percy. Your sense of humor is excellent--I laughed hysterically at big-bottomed George trying to sit on Fred! And it made Percy laugh, too, which really is a good thing. Nicely done! |
Pooca Wednesday 30th June 2004 16:57 | Worth A Thousand Words |
Ooh, very sweet. I really really liked this one. I love the ending, this is not only H/G, but a nice Molly/Arthur story too. This was very weel-written, especially Harry's "haziness" ;o) ...it wasn't too much, just realistic. Very good...this is one of my favorites. |
DailyProphetReporting Tuesday 29th June 2004 05:01 | Worth A Thousand Words |
This is very nicely done. You cover a lot of big topics -- love, loss, redemption -- and they all blend into the familial spirit. The contrast between the Weasleys' coming together and Harry's sense of loss really works well.
I particularly like how you end most of the sections with catchy lines. "Someday you'll have your own picture over the mantel" stands out. And big-bottomed George was a great unifying touch.
I do think the angst was a bit overwhelmed by the other aspects of this fic, but it was still a very enjoyable read.

I really don't like you...you made me get teary-eyed and stuffy! Nah, really it was a very excellent story, and I suppose you are alright. I just hate getting sad...but for this, I'll make an exception because it was happy sadness! |
Ash Monday 28th June 2004 00:13 | Worth A Thousand Words |
Oh, I liked that very much. The Weasley family was all in character, and the necessary lines worked very well, and there was nice romance of the Harry variety, as thick and slow as he can be sometimes.
I really appreciated the wisdom and love shown in the story. It was inspiring. |
Lady Chi Saturday 26th June 2004 22:04 | Worth A Thousand Words |
Wow. What a perfect anniversary gift, and so true to what it would really be like. My Grandmother still gets teary-eyed whenever all thirty-some of us gather to take pictures. Parents really do find their greatest accomplishments to be their children.
But what's even better here is that you've made Harry's character realize that, as well. His own concept of family isn't all that it should be, but I think he learns more and more.
Beautiful peace. I really enjoyed it.

You know, normally when I authorise a chapter for this site, I scan it in around 8-10 seconds, looking for anything technical wrong with it that I might have to fix or reject it for.
This is the first time that I've been caught by the first line and dragged into the story. This was a really enjoyable piece of slightly angst filled fluff. I can't call it true fluff, but it did have an overtone of sadness to it.
Excellent work.
