What is wrong with Dumbledore. He is being so stupid. YOU are making him stupid. What's wrong with you!! I know it tells the story, but this is just fustraiting. Gosh! Very well written and love the chapter. And the book of Moody's, sounds very interesting.

Patience. All good things come to those who wait. Things are going to change between Harry and Dumbledore, but it will be a while in coming. My intent in this plotline was to resolve the differences between Harry and Dumbledore in a way that would make sense, be edifying to all concerned, and further the story. It will take some time to work itself out. There is also an intent on my part to humanize Dumbledore. I think he has made a lot of mistakes and I want to weave them all together and play with them inside this story.

Thanks for all the compliments! I'm glad you are enjoying the story. Don't worry - I took plenty of hits over the head about Dumbledore when the story originally came out! I stuck with my plotline and you should hopefully see it bear fruit beginning in chapter 16 and working onwards.

Thanks for all the reviews and Happy New Year!

'Freudian psychology had never been a favorite study of hers; she put it in the same category as Divination' -- too right, mate
'he didn't have time to worry about him. Voldemort had declared war.' -- huh? Harry is Dumbledore's one and only chance of winning the war; of course he has time to worry about him; what is the old coot thinking? .
So Moody is going to end up teaching for real? Good ! Perhaps he should bargain with old Dumblie -- I'll teach if you send Harry to the Burrow .

Yeah, I rank Freudian psychology right up there with Crumple-Horned Snorkacks!

To give insight into Dumbledore's thoughts, he's thinking that Harry is safe. At the moment, that is his only concern. His priority list is who is safe and who is not and what do I need to do in order to keep them from being murdered. Being at the top isn't just lonely, it's downright difficult(!), but that's what he gets paid the big bucks for!

Wow. Hearing the twins go out of character and talk business was a bit abrupt. But to see a method to their madness is great. I just hope they have a little more madness ... it's more fun to read!

Loved, loved, loved seeing Molly make a Howler. Nice job, that. It was as I pictured it in my mind as well.

That incendiary trash bin is cool. I wish I had one. Is it going to be in the story any more? (*why am I asking about a rubbish bin????*)

Trust Moody to slam it to Dumbledore. And that he's going to teach? This time for real? Good.

Also a quick question!

Are you by any chance going to kill Fudge, because you know, JK said that we'll have a new minister in book 6!

PLease o please o please!!

Er, here I go again using this icon.  I think I'm becoming a bit fond of it, either that or I'm getting myself into trouble again....  I'm going to have to pull a page out of JKR's playbook (what the heck, I've already ripped off everything else!) and not answer this question.  It will give too much away.  I will say this - I'm going to have some fun with Cornelius Fudge.

Thanks for the review - I'm glad to see you're still enjoying it.  Chapter 6 should be up in a week or two.

Awesome job! I hope Moody and Molly steal Harry away from the Dursley's! Poor Harry! Tearing up because of his mean family! All the boy wants is someone to love him!!Poor soul!

I'm glad that Hermione, Ron and Ginny were able to find that Defense book! It's an awesome idea, to have the book state what the wand movements are. That way Harry can practice on his own! Poor Harry! I'm glad that that at least Ginny, Ron and Hermione are being taught some defense over the summer!

LoL! I love Moody! He is my new favorite teacher in this story! Yay, he dissed Dumbledore! Dumbledore's being so mean in this story! I hope he smarts up soon!!

Brilliant job! I love it!!

Go Molly!!!  I love the tag-team of Molly and Moody.  I think their chance are good.

Excellent story!  Looking forward to more.

Very nice. I can't wait to see if somebody convinces Dumbledore to let Harry come to the Burrow.

YES! Maybe Ole Bumblebee will move his +blocked+ and send Harry to the Burrow, where he'll see Ginny and fall madly in love and they'll kick Voldie's scaley butt and toast it before getting married and making babies.

....

Okay, so I have a little bit of a rushing-things problem. It's okay. I'm joking.

CAN'T WE HAVE SOME H/G FLUFF? *sobs*

No, I'm being stupid. I don't like Harry and Ginny jumping into each others' arms, anyway. Still....

So, here's hoping for another (quick) update...

Erm, I think I'm going to be in trouble...      As far as the quick update goes, chapter 6 is with my beta.  As far as the fluff goes (Hank is checking to make sure his fire extinguisher and bullet proof vest are available) that is another question entirely.  This is going to be a rather dark story and it's going to get a lot darker before the sun comes out.  I promise you a happy ending...eventually.  Sorry about that.

Normally you see Churchill quotes mixed in with Harry Potter fan fiction -- I think this is the first time I've recognized W.C Fields showing up!  Excellent story, I'm really enjoying it.

Well, that was a bumpy ride, wasn't it?   In all the stories I've read I don't think I've read where anyone has ever tried to describe the creation of a howler.  I quite enjoyed your depiction of the process but I thought the actual howler was a little tame by Molly standards.

As with canon one of my biggest questions/issues (that hasn't been answered by JK so far at least) is what gives Dumbledore the right to say where Harry stays or what he does.  With the death of his parents he should have gone to his godfather, not the Dursleys.  Since that was not possible with Sirius's situation that should have made Harry a ward of the state, NOT the school or Dumbledore.  Although I shudder to think what would have happened to Harry under the Ministy's tender care I've never been able to understand why Dumbledore has been able to have so much control over Harry's life.    Hopefully JK will answer some of this in the next two books.

Anyway, enough of my ranting   I look forward to more of this story so stop reading this and get back at it!

A very interesting question.  My guess would be that Harry is a ward of his Aunt and Uncle.  He does have living relatives, after all, even if they aren't exactly optimal.  With Sirius in Azkaban, there wasn't really much choice concerning what to do with Harry.  (On a funny side note, I could actually see Sirius volunteering to live as a Muggle in order to keep Harry out of the wizarding world per Dumbledore's wishes.  That might make for a delightful alternative universe work, but that idea is for someone else to explore.  I've got enough on my plate.)  Seeing that Dumbledore has Petunia scared out of her wits, she probably allows him to do what he wants.  Perhaps Dumbledore concocted this very situation to keep Harry out of the Ministry's clutches.  He did send Hagrid to pick Harry up and had the boy spirited off to the Muggle world before anyone could say 'boo'.  Once there, how could the Ministry fight it, seeing they would go against normal custody rules and they would have to deal with the Muggle government as well?
