I think that your story has to be the best explanation I've ever read for why Harry and Ginny could come to an understanding about her staying safe with her parents while he (and Ron & Hermione) went on the Horcrux hunt. She'd wait for him with her parents out of her love for him; she'd do this BECAUSE she loved him, and she understood this was what he needed, in order for him to do what he had to do. She understood that the thought of her would be what got him through his mission. (Also, her understanding that her mother would not be able to handle her going off on this dangerous mission with the trio was very insightful and mature. Molly would've gone off her nut with worry if Ginny was ALSO in as much danger as the rest of her family.)
My first choice (if asked) is always for Ginny to be a full member of the H/R/Hr Horcrux mission, since a.) I'm a huge romantic & adore it when the couples are together, and b.) I love it whenever Ginny makes the Trio a true Quartet, rather than her being a minor, background character. However, if Ginny truly MUST be left behind, then I think YOUR story has best explained and resolved the situation out of any that I've read. Your Ginny doesn't let Harry off easy for his "wall" or breaking up with her, but she doesn't act like a petulant, whining, tantrum-throwing child who hasn't gotten her way. Her support of the Trio's mission, when the rest of her family was freaking out, was very mature and loving. You are a fantastic "Ginny"-writer, and I hope you continue to write fic's with Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione as the focus. (I've seen that you seem to be centering on Lily/James stories recently, which also sound interesting.) However, I still hope you will return to H/G and R/Hr stories. You also write the Weasleys really well.
So, I'm making a plea here for you to consider writing some post-DH (even if they're one-shots, although longer ones would be even better) involving the Trio and their merged extended-family. I also wouldn't turn my nose up at any stories you might write that took place during the time period of DH (e.g., Missing Moments), either. However, the fluff & humor possibilities are endless for stories written post-DH/post-Final Battle. Such as Ginny & Harry's wedding (since Ginny said she wouldn't be the madwoman that Fleur was), or Ron & Hermione's wedding (since Hermione would probably be even more of a madwoman than Fleur, with her perfectionist tendencies). Or when either of the couples were pregnant or went into labor. I *KNOW* that you would add your very unique, excellent spin to these important, exciting events in the Quartet's lives. Please consider writing them. No one could do them exactly the way you could.
Again, fantastic story! |

lovelly, I really liked it that harry "told" her he loves her without using the words, because he didn't know real love till he fell for her. |

This was wonderful, I really enjoyed it. I especially loved your characterization of Ginny. Do you have any plans to write any more post-HBP H/G anytime soon? There's just one tiny thing I noticed: “Last time I did this I had Lavender and Parvati to help me.” In the GoF, Parvati was just as surprised as everyone else at Hermione's 'transformation'. I only noticed this because I just re-read it! |

That was great! I loved how you portrayed Fleur, there are never enough
stories about her, and not enough keeping her in character, but you did
so and I'm glad! :) I absolutely adored the end of this, too. It was
hilarious how Ginny told Harry he had to apologize or she would make
him wait a few days. ROFLOL Then, I liked how she called it the 'chosen
one' apologies. I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading this.
Great job!

Brilliant story! I enjoyed Ginny's character so much! Too amusing! Yay for Harry admitting his feelings for Ginny....again! I loved Fleur's character a lot too, she was really amusing, truth be told I loved them all. You did a fantastic job! I can't wait to read more stories by you! |

That is sweet. =) I loved the wedding, and the talk between Harry and Ginny. It's heartbreaking to think that Ginny may not come with them, but...there's always that possibility. Great job!

Thank you! I have read many stories which have it both ways - Ginny going with them, Ginny staying home, and I personally feel that she will probably stay home at first but, as I said in the story, be with them in the end. (And hopefully we'll get some snogging at Christmas or something like that.)

sonicdale Wednesday 10th August 2005 21:08 | Something Called Love |
Coolness.
I've waited until the end of the trio of stories to comment.
The first one was a nice bit. Fluffy, yes, but nice.
The second one was even better.
The third -- was so layered well and the structure flowed cleanly. I
liked the POV and the crisp asides that Ginny has -- they were really
in character.
The Golden Trio is on their way on a Horcrux Hunt... and I'd expect to
see several fics about this. But what I did like about yours was the
setup. Too many authors want to rush on to the action. Your set of
stories are good in that they don't reach too far. They take in the
premise of 'setting the stage' well. I wonder if you'll be writing
more? Say, oh, like a full length Seventh Year?
Good work. Looking forward to even more of your work.

Thank you so much for the long review! I had so much fun writing this trio of stories (although hopefully I will write more) and I agree with you about your asessment of the three stories. The first one I think is Breaking a Lock, right? Yes, that one is very fluffy. The Prefect is definitely my favorite of the two pre-HBP because I feel that everyone's a bit more in-character (plus it's not as fluffy). And thank you for saying that this one flowed - that was a particular stumbling block in the beta-ing process and I had to really work on it to get it to work well. And I'm very glad you liked the setup of my stories. I hate it when people rush into the action (unless it is believable) and that is something I try to avoid. As for seventh year fic...we'll see. I'm committed right now to my L/J story, but who knows what I'll write afterwards. :) |
EvieMarie Wednesday 10th August 2005 01:02 | Something Called Love |
Okay, I'm adding something!
I also really liked that Harry never said "I love you." I liked that Ginny knew what he was feeling, but it was also very canon to have Harry just kiss her.
Yeah. That's all. |
Monday 15th August 2005 15:21 | Something Called Love (Author Response) |
Thank you again. I agree, I don't feel that Harry loves Ginny yet, but we're getting there, and I can't wait until he actually does realize it. *smiles dreamily* |
EvieMarie Wednesday 10th August 2005 01:00 | Something Called Love |
Oh wow. I really really loved this.
I especially like your writing style - Ginny was brilliantly wriiten, very in character. Harry was great too. You did a fantastic job at capturing the Harry portrayed in book six - mature, certain, but also still... very Harry. I really really loved this. (Did I say that already? lol)
Anyway... wonderful work, please keep it up. I'm looking forward to more from you. |

I'm so glad you liked it, and thank you for the lovely compliments. I love trying to get as close to canon as I possibly can, and I'm particularly proud of this fic as far as being canon-oriented. I'll definitely be writing more, don't worry! |

Beautiful... wonderfully written. Poor Fleur, marriage nerves can
definitely do you in. Veela or not, I think all women (and men,
though for some reason it's the women who're the main wedding fixers)
want that day to be something special. And it worked out well,
the happy couple got married and a dream or two got some more substance
to them... Yay to Ginny and Harry talking to each other, and to
Harry for finally confessing his love for her. This felt very
canon, it'll be interesting to see how it is done by Jo (a mere two (?)
years from now... aargh! Well, more time to enjoy fanfics).
Fun to see Mafalda entering... how awful to have a Slythering cousin
when you're all Gryffindors.
Thanks for sharing - and keep writing.

Thank you! And I've never been married, but I agree, women do end up being the main wedding fixers, and I bet it's nerve-wracking! And I'm glad you think it was canon-oriented; that is very important to me! As for two years - we can only hope!! And I'm glad you liked Mafalda - I've always wanted to see her since Jo mentioned her and I really liked writing that sequence. Thanks again! |
