Another lovely and fun "missing moment", that fits in perfectly with canon! To me, your speculation on a Ginny / Hermione conversation happening about here must be on the mark. I actually wonder in how much detail JKR thought all this stuff out - she is amazing!

Thank you for your hard work and wonderful ideas!

I love Missing Moments! This is excellent. You can see the tender sibling relationship between Ginny and Ron, which is often missing from fics. I also like how they both know how the other really feels about Hermione and Harry. Good work!

I really loved this missing moment, along with the Harry/Ginny one in the common room. This one here makes me want to see what happened next. Why don't you do one about Ginny / Hermione's talk?

I like the missing moments you've been adding, it's also nice to see things from Ginnys POV.. even if it is all just speculation. As always, I love the work!

UK edition of Half-blood Prince suggests that it was Peakes's bat that McLaggen used and that it was probably the Bludger that hit Harry, not actually the bat, since it suggests that McLaggen mis-hit it rather than missed it entirely:

Sure enough, McLaggen, for reasons best known to himself, had pulled Peakes's bat from him and appeared to be demonstrating how to hit a Bludger towards an oncoming Cadwallader.

'Will you give him back his bat and get back to the goalposts! roared Harry, pelting towards McLaggen just as McLaggen took a ferocious swipe at the Bludger and mis-hit it.

(HBP, Uk Edn, p.389)

Apart from that, it was a very interesting look at what might have been a defining point in Harry and Ginny's relationship, even if Harry wasn't aware of it. Ginny is characterised very well, and her internal dialogue fits the situation nicely. She has the right balance of concern and uncertainty about how she's feeling about Harry.

Well, I must say I really liked your story. Missing moments are fun, aren't they! That said, I have to add a compliment on your characterization of Ginny. I particularly like how she shows hesitation just to go visit Ron, because Harry is in the Hospital Wing as well. When Ron catches her staring at Harry, I can just imagine the smug thoughts in his head. She's clearly torn about having a boyfriend, but still loving Harry (as always), but not wanting to admit that she still loves him. Poor girl! Keep up the good work, you're one of my favorite authors!

Now, if HBP had been written to include passages like this I would have enjoyed it a LOT more ... it would have helped me *believe* in the H/G moments that we saw.  As it was the romance between the two in JKR's pages left me completely underwhelmed.

You wouldn't like to rewrite the entire sixth book, would you?

Good story, really tying things together ... the signs of growing attraction between the two (so Ginny noticed, hey?), her dissatisfaction with Dean (strategically placed, given what we know happened next), the quidditch match post-mortem (thank you for including the Luna comments).  Cute how you've rebutted some of the anti-Ginny complaints - she's NOT promiscuous, having dated only two boys on a 'long-term' basis and she didn't use any love potions.  Dang, there goes another theory.

"Some girls tended to mistrust Ginny simply because she got on so well with the blokes".  Was Ginny's involvement with the diary - her actions petrifying students - known to the other students after her first year?  I've fogotten the canon ... I know some fan fiction stories have her as something of an outcast, estranged from her peers, because of the stigma ensuing from Tom's possession.

Good story, fit in very nicely to HBP, making it a whole lot better in my opinion.  Thank you!

As ever a well written piece. I have a mind to write  an 'In defence of Ron' missing moment that would explore his feelings and motivations much as you've done with Ginny here.

One small point, Ginny would be more likely to say " attack was the best form of defence" rather than "the best defense was a good offense."Unless of course, she was an exchange student.

This was brilliant. Truly. I loved being inside her head - and I think everyone who complains about that bloody fight between Ron and Ginny and how it made her a bad person should be forced to read this and understand. Bravo to you for writing yet another lovely missing moment!

I really enjoy stories that show an alternate PoV for a scene within cannon. You've captured Ginny quite nicely here. We tend to picture Ginny as fairly confident, but here, you've captured that keen sense of teenaged insecurity very well. It's almost that sense of I know what I'm doing...don't I?

And I do like Ginny feeling some guilt for messing up Ron and Hermione. She ought to! ;)

Hi Melinda,  long time no review!  Still I'm here now.  Loved this missing moment, printed out and read it at work at lunchtime and tonight I folded it up and inserted it in the appropriate place in HBP.  Said it before and I'll say it again... in my humble opinion you emulate JKR's writing style better than any other fanfic writer I know.

Thank you.

My favourite line had to be: "Ron certainly couldn't talk now, as he'd been seen with Lavender Brown's tongue in his mouth more often than the cutlery in the Great Hall."  Couldn't stop giggling at that as it seems such a Ginnyish thing to say.

Keep well and keep writing....please.

I loved your story. I love how Ron notices Ginny watching Harry and reassures her.  I love how you ended the story. I always enjoy how you depict Ginny.  You keep her feisty and her strong personality intact. With that in mind, I would really like to see you write a "missing moment" from the funeral when Harry tells Ginny that they have to break up and after Harry leaves Ginny at the funeral from Ginny's POV.  I think you could do it justice.
Tuesday 20th September 2005 13:36Moment of Clarity (Author Response)

I adore Ginny, canon Ginny, so I'm glad you think I write her well.  I agree with you than I get annoyed with how she's portrayed sometimes.

Thanks for the great suggestion!  I've had that one mentioned, and it's the one I'm considering most right now.

First, I am not very fond of how our couple faired in the HBP, the ending was just wrong, but I agree with you on Ginny and Hermione, well girls are more perceptive (and devious) about those sorts of things- if Ginny doesn't come back with a vengence in the next book I think I'll just burn the lot- but in any event, very nice missing moment- I think something along this line must have happened- that kiss was more than just a crush showing through and Harry and his nobility, ah well it make them so endearing....
Monday 19th September 2005 17:14Moment of Clarity (Author Response)

Oh, no!  You can't do that without hearing it the way she want's to tell it, lol.  The only way I'd ever agree with that is if Harry didn't survive in the end.

Personally, I loved the end of HBP.  I hated that they broke up, but the way  they did it, each obviously not wanting to but doing what they felt they had to for the other was simply romantic and beautiful in my opinion.  I think it showed better than anything else how alike they are and how perfect for each other.

All the best.

That was fantastic.  I don't know how you managed to do it, but what got me the most was unconscious!Harry and the way that Ginny was looking at him out of the corner of her eye.  I almost cried - and that is saying something.
I am enjoying your missing moments.  I believe that there is something begging to be written about Fleur and Bill staying back at the Burrow, while everyone else goes to Diagon Alley.  Remember them waving goodbye to everyone from the window?  Not sure if it is something that you would write - would love to hear Fleur having a go at all the Weasley family - maybe she would have some nicknames for them all.  And Bill would know how to shut her up!
Anyway, I have a silly smile on my face now, so off to bed for me.
Monday 19th September 2005 14:18Moment of Clarity (Author Response)

Aww, thanks.  I always love unconscious Harry scenes, lol.  It was strange to write a H/G moment where Harry wasn't really even there!

I'm not a huge fan of Fleur (although I did love that she stood by Bill).  I thought she was the most horrible of houseguests.  I haven't started any other moments, although my thougths keep drifting to the idea of one over Christmas...

I think that alot of us have mostly missing moments stuck after HBP.  This one was very nice.  'Not that Harry's not generally a bit dazed' comment gave me a good chuckle.  Thanks for the story :)
Monday 19th September 2005 06:41Moment of Clarity (Author Response)
Thanks!  Harry can be a bit dazed, and I love seeing Ron and Harry rag on each other.  Although Harry/Ginny is my favorite ship, the canon frienship between Ron and Harry is one of my all-time favorites.

   Hahahahaha - brilliant!

Very astute, very perceptive and very, very  - one of the better characterisations of our beloved red-headed, red-tempered heroine I've ever read, perchance not quite on par woth PoE and CotD but there you had longer time for fleshing her out. This felt VERY canon though and it gave some very good background for why Dean and Ginny fell apart (I remember Hermione saying "they've been rocky for ages" when she told Harry Ginny broke up with Dean) and as usual you make us other bumbling, fumbling authors wanna go and hide in the cupboard as our skill cannot possibly match yours. *sigh*

So when do you go professional?  You have to let me know as I'm sure I want to read what you written!  If not...

Perchance not, but I would be disappointed though. It's great to see that you muse keeps going and all updates from you are eagerly read and cherished! Thanks for writing and sharing this, it was and is much appreciated!

Thanks!  I'm so glad you enjoyed it, you're always so supportive and it feeds my self-confidence, lol!  The Ginny/Dean dynamic intrigues me as she seems to have stuck it out longer than she was happy.  I think maybe her attention was focused elsewhere ;)

I've seen some wonderful missing moment scenes, and I always enjoy reading them, so I'm glad you thought this one was up to par.  As for professional - well, that's the dream, isn't it?

Wonderful job as usual!  I definitely need these Missing Moments to keep me going till Book 7! The characterisation is great and the little H/G moment at the end was lovely. You have to think that Ginny would have noticed Harry's change in attitide toward her. It didn't seem all that subtle at times! And if you've had feelings for someone for a long time, you tend to take note of and store up even a smile, so full on jealous!Harry would probably be hard to ignore! Especially when he obviously couldn't have cared less about the pending Dean situation in OotP. *Sigh* Love HBP! And you write so well; I think you could slot these MMs into the book, and only the change in POV would give it away. Loved Score one for little sister; I can totally relate!  And It wasn't as if she'd forced him to do it or used a love potion or anything stupid like that. Hee. Little dig at the annoying LovePotionWielding!Ginny theory?
Monday 19th September 2005 06:37Moment of Clarity (Author Response)

No, I don't think his change was subtle at all, lol.  We read about Harry repeatedly getting hit with Bludgers during Quidditch practices.  WHEN have we ever known Harry to not pay attention during Quidditch?

I don't think it was that he didn't care about the pending Ginny/Dean in OotP, he did notice enough for us to "see" Ron's comment, but Harry was obviously grieving at the time.  He wasn't in the right frame of mind yet.

I'm glad you appreciated the love potion thing.  Honestly!  That is the MOST ridiculous thing I've ever seen, since we obviously SAW how a love potion really works.  Sigh.

Nice!  I so enjoy the different missing moments that keep on popping up.  This one was something, indeed.  I like the way you described Ginny here, how her thoughts seemed to circle around Harry, and her growing irritation with Dean.  Having him put food on her plate was rather funny - there really is a limit to what is gentlemanly, and Dean seems to have passed that limit with a great margin.  He obviously doesn't know who Ginny really is - or doesn't appreciate it.

Well done!  (That's no big surprise, though).  Thanks for sharing.
Monday 19th September 2005 06:30Moment of Clarity (Author Response)
Well, Hermione said that Ginny and Dean were rocky, and Ginny got upset about the arm at the portrait hole, so I wanted to explore that a bit.  I don't think Dean gets Ginny at all - even back at Christmas Harry thought he detected some tension.  If Harry noticed it - wow!  Imagine how heavy it must have been!

Thanks.  I love missing moments, too.  I can't help but think that Ginny suspected something, and I KNOW Hermione did.  I'm sure those two shared a laugh and a plan over the whole thing
