The New Zealand Chronicles
Aww, well everybody makes mistakes right? It's just a good thing she's finally realized it and is learning from them.
The Ginny thing is wanting to prove myself to you.

That's going back the the whole point where she didn't think she was good enough for him right? Rhetorical question *grins* I wanna find out

No one wants to make mistakes, but the smart thing is to learn from them when they happen. Easier said than done, though.

It's so sweet to see how Harry and Ginny communicate with each other. You have done a great job capturing all their emotions and fears.

Hezzie and Niall -- I hope Kenny comes riding in on a white unicorn.
I like the broom scene.

You'll have to wait and see how Kenny fits in. Thanks for reading so shortly after new canon - this is obviously AU now.

*whew* You had me scared with a title like that! I enjoyed this chapter, and I'm glad Ginny finally got to realize how Tom haunts her still. She's so determined to get over it, I wish I could realize my mistakes and face them with such determination!

I know - since Ginny is a fictional character her learning curve is a lot steeper than ours - so she can get a lot accomplished in a shorter time. Sometimes it takes years to figure it all out. Believe me, I know. *nods* Thanks for reading!

I loved the interaction between Harry and Ginny in this chapter. They really make a great team (flying and in day to day life), and it's really enjoyable to read about their relationship developing and processing of painful past events. It's so interesting to get the perspective of their older selves, and I find Ginny's emotions about Tom Riddle and blaming herself for putting Harry in danger completely convincing. I'm really glad Harry didn't give her a hard time this time.

But I have a baaad feeling about Niall and Hezzie. It's not going to end well, I can tell!

Hopefully by this point in the story Harry has learned something as well as Ginny. Lots more H/G reliving the past to come.

Oh, yes. Niall and Hezzie. *shifty eyes* You'll see.

I actually read this a while ago, but haven't been able to review until now. Great chapter! I feel really bad for Hezzie. Does she ever get a chance at Kenny again? I like Niall, I really do, but she deserves to be happy and Niall just won't do it for her for long. I think that Niall would be a little relieved if Hezzie broke it off with him. Anyway update soon, i can't wait to find out what happens next.

I think you're right about true love and Hezzie and Niall - but a lot of people get married for different reasons and make a go of it. You'll have to wait and see what happens with this very different partnership. Thanks so much for reading!

As always, you have produced a wonderful chapter. I admit I've read the whole thing on your livejournal (and I never comment cause I don't have one), but I wanted to pop over hear to say that it was fantastic.

I love that Ginny isn't just sitting at home waiting for him all the time, it is much better that she has her driving duties.

This chapter:

I love the way you make Ginny's vulnerability seem so real, when she's afraid of opening up to Harry.

I'm not sure my brain is ready to accept a Harry who would readily accept Niall and Hezzie getting married while Hezzie's in love with someone else. I think your explanation is a good one, but it still stood out in my mind as slightly odd.

Oh, that's a good question! Harry doesn't really know that Hezzie is in love with another, since it's always been Ginny talking to her. Harry is identifying more with Niall, thinking that he just needs a good woman in his life he has. (Typical married guy feeling )

On my journal you don't have to have an account to comment. So jump in anytime you want.

I like this idea of Ginny making spectacular mistakes, and of her being haunted by her past mistakes. One thing that has always annoyed me about Harry Potter is that we don't really find out how the diary and Tom affected her. I'm glad you've touched on it.

I wonder if we'll find out more about Ginny and the diary in DH? At least JKR briefly brought up Ginny's experience in OotP and HBP - but I'd love to hear a heart-to-heart between H/G about it. Thanks for reading!

I really liked this chapter. It's so sweet, and even with all the drama, the love between Harry and Ginny is so strong, even in their young age. And you're choice in relocating Harry and Ginny so far from Ron and Hermione was a good one: Now they'll know how to solve their own problems in their own relationships...right? Unless they're really broken up and not going to get back together?! Right, I forgot, You're doing a Ron the Builder story too. Whew, I was almost going to have a heart attack.

Anyway, regardless of my silly comments, this was a great chapter, and I hope there's more to come!

LOL - I would never break up R/Hr - even Lavender and Viktor Krum and a whole bunch of fan fic. couldn't break them up! I do think, because of everything both Harry and Ginny have been through that they're a little advanced in the area of love - they might have lessons to learn - but they're determinded to learn them together. Thanks for reading!

The New Zealand Chronicles
hi, i'm very new and this is the first review i have felt compelled to write. This story is really amazing - i love reading the one's about years after the war and this one is so great because in a way it is `normal`. I don't mean that in a bad way - i think it is great to read a story about a normal married couple who are young and still getting used to life together. Rather than going for a big adventurous story you have shown them together their growing understanding of each other. I love the added details about New Zealand and the search and rescue course. I also like the hezzie/neil storyline and all the other little stories you have snuck in like hedwig's babies. the little extras give extra interest and make it seem like a real work of fiction rather than just a story about two people.
I hope i've got across what i'm trying to say - that it is a story about a normal couple - but an amazing one and i hope it goes on and on.

p.s You are great at updating regularly - i only found this a week or so ago and read the first 24 chapters fairly quickly then thought i would have to wait a while before an update but now there have been 2 new chapters within only a few days of each other so thank you for that.

Oh, thank you for your nice review! I think you'll find lots of good stories here at Phoenix Song. All thirty-one chapters of this story are written, they just have to be beta'd and formatted - so the updates will come as quickly as my beta's schedule will allow.

I've always that the greatest gift JKR could give Harry (after all she put him through) was a normal life with Ginny. I was happy to write it for him and even happier that someone else wanted to read about it! So thanks so much for reading and letting me know.

You used your story to underline some really good points in the book about the Harry Ginny dynamic. It made it interesting on many levels.

Ute broom. I like in Utah. The Uof U's mascot is the running Ute. The Ute reservation is Eastern Utah near Vernal and Roosevelt. Other indigineous tribes are PiaUTEs and GoshUTEs. So when I read Ute broom, I don't read Utility. I see a broom flown by or decorated by or built by Ute natives.
Friday 1st June 2007 15:03The New Zealand Chronicles (Author Response)
That's interesting about Utes - it's definitely an Aussie/Kiwi term. But think how beautiful such a broom would be. There will be much more about the H/G dynamic in the next chapters as they come to understand the inner life of the person they married.
