Hilarious. Loved it. A peak into a conversation between guys...interesting to say the least.
And how hypocritical of them, right there at the end.

Hehe, loved the banter! Nice to know Harry and Ron can be normal guys sometimes! |
BasketKiwi Saturday 6th May 2006 21:35 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Even better the second time. I'd love to hear a companion piece, telling just what Hermione, Ginny, and Luna were talking about when they were walking down the path. ^^ That would definitely be interesting, to see the other side of it. I love the laid back feeling of this, the whole mood is funny in itself. So, yes, good job, again, and please to consider a companion/sequelly thing... |
MissPenny45 Saturday 25th February 2006 19:45 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
that was good. haha "great legs" --funny |
Kate98 Saturday 18th February 2006 06:09 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
This story is too fabulous for words. It manages to be both hysterical and eye-rollingly realistic at the same time. Makes me just want to smack 'em, but somehow it's also endearing. Really well done! |
Wild Magelet Wednesday 15th February 2006 23:25 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I've still got a smile on my face from reading this. I did read it at the time, but I think it's even funnier the second time around. I feel like a bit of an eavesdropper, actually, lol. There's something about boy talk that makes girl feel distinctly uncomfortable! I suspect it's the same both ways. Love the last few lines. Some teenage gossip makes a nice reprieve for Harry. |

How adorable I really liked the Harry and Ron bantar. Really nice quotes thrown in there as well, I particularly liked this one,
<i>"So, whenever I get vegetables, or orange juice, or anything healthy, I just think, 'Is Dumbledore telling your mum what I have to eat? Is he trying to make sure that I don't get fat before I fight Voldemort?' Sometimes I just want to end up like Dudley."</i>
Too funny. Really this story was brilliant in every aspect, characterization, quotes, everything. Brilliant |

Another brilliant fic, and once again, much enjoyed.

I think this is one of the best stories I have ever read!!!! I can see why it won the competetion
I'm still laughing
I think it would be a great idea to right a sequel to this but in the girls point of view, I would definitly read it
great job, keep writing, and Plez write back

really good i feel that this is some thing that the books are missing
the average guy talk and such like becasue quite frankly harry may not
be an average wizard but he is an average guy and there needs to be
more guy time for talk about well arses and such puls it would mean we
get a better idea of what the charecters look like. would love to know
hat the girls are talkin about being a guy i hve no idea and any
little help wouild be good lol great once again sequael u know you

That was good ! Didn't actually read any of the stories in the contest till now. Summer's always a busy time.
Very nicely done one-shot. Very different.
|
Daksian Thursday 7th July 2005 18:59 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Quite an enjoyable ficlet to be sure! It's nice to see Harry and
Ron engaging in something normal for teenage boys like evaluating
girls' *ahem* assets.
The shipping focus was mild (but still H/G and R/Hr!), which I
appreciated--makes it seem more real than most. I admit to being
curious as to what the girls were talking about, especially with Luna's
choice being something of an x-factor. Any hopes for a sequel?
Well done, and congratulations on winning the contest!

Congrats on winning the contest! I must add my plea to those already made for a companion piece from the girls points of view......maybe Hermione, Ginny and Luna sitting under a tree by the lake at Hogwarts as various boys stroll by? Here's hoping! |
tante Wednesday 6th July 2005 20:04 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Well done and congratulations!!!
Lovely conversation. Felt like I was sitting in the tree just above them eavesdropping. I was giggling like mad. Hope they didn't hear me. I tried hard not to throw bits of twig at them, just held my breath and rolled my eyes. Boys.
Thanks for the treat! |
Sassenach Wednesday 6th July 2005 17:04 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
LOL great one-shot. I love their conversation and how they seemed to keep going on about great legs. I'm sorry I didn't review during the contest, but it wouldn't have mattered since you won! Congrats! |

Really great job, Majick! I'd really like a longer version,

Delani Tuesday 5th July 2005 12:51 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
HAH! This was just...ahhh, boys. The conversation is so natural and entirely entertaining. I loved the hypocrisy in the end, lol. Who'd have thought that my favorite entry so far had Harry and Ron sharing confections and confessions? Great job! Oh I wish I could review more than once for this!
Delani |
Katieay Tuesday 5th July 2005 06:36 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
LOL!!! That was some completely awesome interraction right there. Boys talking about girls, talking about boys. They really didn't talk about who they fancy, they spent a lot of time not talking about the two, in fact, which made the last little bit that much funnier. So good! Well done! |
snowball Monday 4th July 2005 23:24 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I find it ironic that Harry feel girls thinking of boys as boring but he and Ron just did the same thing, albeit talking about girls they fancy. A nice talk between the two friends. |
TigerLily8186 Monday 4th July 2005 23:21 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
It was really the title that caught my eye. I enjoyed how vegetables just seemed to pop into the conversation briefly during the talk about girls. An amusing little take. |
Ainsley Monday 4th July 2005 19:21 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
pretty random, pretty amusing. |
Split Decision Monday 4th July 2005 14:04 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
This fic seems so perfectly... teenage boy. The relationship between Ron and Harry is amazingly done - you can almost feel the enduring friendship underlying the banter. Possibly the best fic in the contest, in my opinion. |

Excellent! Perfect dialogue - you've really captured their age well. Nice friendship moments.

Sunshine Sunday 3rd July 2005 15:58 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I love this story! Not only was it well-written and fun to read, but it just felt so realistic to me. I can easily imagine two boys having just this conversation on a summer day, and the fact that it was Harry and Ron was just a huge bonus. I would love to see a similar story from the girls' point of view. Very well done! |

Hahahahahaha! VERY funny! Great job. |
Sherbert Sunday 3rd July 2005 07:32 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Cool story although a very male one. Nice to see Harry having normal teenage concerns rather than worrying about Voldemort. A sequel with the girls conversation (which lets face it will be about the boys) would be a nice follow on. |

Harry and Ron discussing girls is too funny. Great fic! |

I have to say the conversation seemed very true to men/boys everywhere. Very nice job thanks for taking the time to share. |

I really enjoyed this! Just the boys, kinda cute! |
MrRobertsIII Saturday 2nd July 2005 01:46 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Excellent! I particularly enjoyed that only girl's physical assets were discussed. Personality? No...never heard of it. |
thehopefulGinnyPotter Friday 1st July 2005 21:35 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I really enjoyed this because it strayed from the typical "I don't notice girls because I'm to holy" Harry. The ending was great! |
melray1228 Friday 1st July 2005 18:44 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Cute - It really sounds like my brother and his friends when they were teenagers. Good job! |

Very typical teenage boys here. I hope when this is over you write a sequel for the girls...just to see what they say. |

Terrific story! Very realistic--I have a teenage boy, so I know! |
Fuzzy Friday 1st July 2005 13:33 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Ooooooooookay. That was a little weird but it definitely shows great insight to a Harry we don't normally see.
Oh, and before you ask, I meant weird in a good way. |

muggleprincess Friday 1st July 2005 09:53 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Very Cute and absolutely fuunny. I enjoyed the entire story. Shows a different side of the boys the we don't often get to see. Once again truly excellent. |

Nice story! You have my vote. Ah, I can remember the days just like that one. Keep up the good work. |
malko050987 Friday 1st July 2005 07:52 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
This is great! I would have liked to see them actually interact with the girls, or you could've written the girl's concersation, cut it's great anyway. You get an 'Outstanding' |
Ladybug Friday 1st July 2005 04:57 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
ok, I'm pretty sure this is my favourite (or one of them at least!) - this is pretty fantastic - they are such boys and such friends - sigh!
"Boring," Harry said. Ha! That's perfect and hilarious. and they were eating slugs - how appropriate!
I found this whole story - very - satisfying. Thanks!! |
Suky Friday 1st July 2005 00:55 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
That was wonderful!! Very funny as well. Although I can't see a conversation like that in the books, I can totally see guys acting like that and the interaction between Harry and Ron in this was totally awesome. |
Arnel Friday 1st July 2005 00:25 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I love the title of this story; it caught my eye and just beckoned me to read your entry! And then, I laughed through the entire story. You must have access to the conversations of teenage boys because your dialog is so natural-sounding: I love how Harry and Ron compare the assets of each girl they talk about and the fact that they seem to be “leg men”! As for the veggies, well, if Harry and Ron are anything like my two boys, green is not a good color for food! I admire Molly for making sure those two eat balanced meals, though. All in all, I really enjoyed this story and will be coming back to read it time and again after the contest. |

PomegranateQueen Thursday 30th June 2005 18:50 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but I just have to say how much I loved this. It's wonderful to see Ron and Harry acting like actual teenage boys. Bravo. |
dibberne Thursday 30th June 2005 18:37 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I really enjoyed it! It's nice to read a story in which the boys are acting like, well, teenaged boys. : ) |
pwykersotz Thursday 30th June 2005 18:32 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
This story definitely needs to win. Hands down. That's all I have to say. |
Melindaleo Thursday 30th June 2005 18:18 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Giggle and a snigger. This was really cute. It was fun to see Ron and Harry acting like normal teenage cretins...erm...I mean boys, lol.
I loved Ron's expression when Harry described Ginny, and then the two of them thinking the girls conversation would be boring when it was exactly what they were doing. What a hoot! |
Trystym Thursday 30th June 2005 17:03 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Argh!!! Want more! This just screams for an answering chapter
from the girls POV. Quite good, and I loved the pumpkins.
Great legs...
|
Delylah Thursday 30th June 2005 16:58 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
This is really cute, and original, too. I loved reading Harry and Ron's
perspective on ogling girls, since most similar fics are about Hermione
and Ginny complaining about Ron and Harry. Nice job :)
|
Kid Dynomite Thursday 30th June 2005 16:44 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I love how this just keeps its focus on harry and ron "noticing" the girls. It gives them a sense of normalcy, that they're just two guys sitting back and eyeing up some girls they like. Just like every other red-blooded male on the planet. It's really good and it has style...
bravo!
kd |
h2o Thursday 30th June 2005 16:23 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Haha, great one! Are you a guy or just a girl who's got lots of brothers? Cus' you really seem to know what we guys talk about during the summer :P Loved this story, really good writing and just so funny!
//Kev |
The Knight Thursday 30th June 2005 15:49 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
I thought this was absolutely brilliant. I love how you didn't really right a fluffy piece, just two guys being normal. Heck I remember having conversations like this with my best friend over summers in high school. I am loathe to call it sweet, but I think it is great. Good job. |
loverlydaisy520 Thursday 30th June 2005 13:15 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
That was seriously the cutest story I've read in a long time-and the most creative insertion of sweets. Harry and Ron's casual conversation was so real-to-life and shows how close they truly are. I loved it-good luck with the competition. |
murkus Thursday 30th June 2005 12:22 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Wow.
This rocks, I can't even explain it. It's full of
character, and it seems really realistic, however, as a girl, I
wouldn't how realistic.
It's the epitome of short and sweet, because it's so simple, yet it's
so meaningful. I mean, not really deep and thought provoking, as it's
just a pair of boys talking about girls, but it's nice to see a Harry
that's not angsty and mad, but just enjoying a normal day with his best
friend.
The descriptions are really nice, too. I could really picture what was happening, and the laziness of a hot day in summer.
So basically... this is really good, and keep it up.
Good luck with the contest.
And let me say wow again.
Wow.
|
Cambryn Thursday 30th June 2005 12:13 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
That was quite cute. :) A very male perspective on such things. The ending was well done. |
DraconisD Thursday 30th June 2005 11:52 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Great story. It is all I can say |
huskers Thursday 30th June 2005 11:01 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Now this one, I really liked. Very subtle yet containing everything teenage boys think about. Harry's comments about Ron's sister were great, and Ron's reaction was perfect. When the contest is over, I would like to see you take this story down a few more oneshots and put our two favorite couples together. |
martita Thursday 30th June 2005 10:36 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Nice to see that Harry can be a normal teenager. Waiting for him to actually do something to get more familiar with those legs of the pretty redhead. |
DDragon Thursday 30th June 2005 10:30 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
very funny :D |
amulder Thursday 30th June 2005 09:25 | An Absence Of Vegetables |
Amazing. You manage to capture the essence of boys talking about girls, and you kept it from becoming vulgar/obscene, and it didn't sound forced.
The brussels sprouts line was great, nasty slimy little sour
vegetables. The pumpkin line was a bit too... trendy
fanfic. I know, there's that whole "HMS Pumpkin Pie" thing, but I
would just ignore it. After all, there is pumpkin juice all
throughout the books. So this just doesn't quite ring true.
well done.
