Trying to stop me from finding out their secret, was what. Well, no one was going to stop me, least of all him.
“No,” I replied shortly. “I’m going to find out your secret if it kills me!” I hissed, threw him a withering look and turned back, starting on my way again. But Potter darted forward and grabbed my wrist.
“That’s the thing,” he said quietly, “it might.”
“What?” I snapped, too angry now to take any notice of his words. “Let go of me!” I quickly directed my wand at Potter’s hand and, with the use of a non-verbal spell, he let go of my wrist instantly, as though it had burned his hand.
Then I leapt out of his reach and began to sprint down the tunnel.
“NO!” I heard Potter roar behind me.
What was he so desperate to keep me from seeing? I fleetingly wondered. It must be something really bad –
The tunnel suddenly twisted and I could see a dim light through a small opening. I approached and through the opening could see a large room. Suddenly, something very near me screamed and I jumped violently. There was a yowl – and something enormous blocked the light. I stared up to see a huge wolf, sharp teeth in its drooling mouth and even as I watched, transfixed with horror, it opened its massive jaws and screamed again.
Something grabbed me from behind and quickly dragged me back down the passage. I was too horrified by what I had seen to understand what was happening.
All I could make out was the back of Potter’s head, silhouetted by the light of his wand that led us back down the tunnel. He was running, and I must’ve been too, because he was pulling me with him, away – thank God, away – from this tunnel, and that monster…
