Monday 1st October 2007 07:48 | R.I.P. dear Albus | With every new movie that comes out I miss Richard Harris more and more. His portrayal was true to the books, whereas Michael Gambon has completely departed fom the books. His Dumbeldore is loud and frenzied, silly, and does not have the air of power under control. Harris exuded all of those qualities and even looked more the part than Gambon does, though I suppose that's the makeup department's fault more than his. I have nothing against Michael Gambon as an actor. I'm sure in other parts he has done well. But he is not Dumbledore. Mr. Harris, you are sorely missed.
Now, as for this picture, it is beautiful. He looks exactly as I thought Dumbledore ought to look. I know people make that comment a lot ("looks just like I imagined him/her") but I mean it literally. Having seen the first two movies before I read the books my mental image of Dumbledore was biased by Richard Harris' performance. While this is not a protrait of Harris, it is a beautiful blending of some of his kind features and everything "Dumbledore" from JKR's description. Really, really wonderful. |

Thursday 19th July 2007 07:56 | R.I.P. dear Albus | It's horrible that he's gone. He actually was Dumbledore, he makes the other guy look like trash. It's not his fault, the guy's not bad, Richard was just that great. I always see Richard and hear his voice when I read the stories online and in the books. It's like when you're a little kid and you get this amazing toy, and then after a few days it breaks.
Rest in peace, Richard Harris, a. k. a. Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Merlin incarnate (just a theory I have, it's open to whoever wants to run with it, just tell me so I know where to go to read it.) |

I loved Richard so much more than this new guy. I think he was a much better actor and fit the part MUCH more.
